Nov 2002--Jason Ely, Lead Programmer, Lead Producer , took part in a Dransik interview posted a couple of days ago at Stratics Central. This is what he had to say about how the game's origins:
Well the idea that IS Dransik was born many years ago before I joined Origin, back in the mid-late 1980s to be exact. When I started at Origin I had expressed many of my ideas to Richard Garriott since I knew he was interested in making "Multima" or Ultima Online as it is called today. For various reasons I decided not to be involved with the UO project and continued my career as a programmer on Crusader. After leaving the game industry in 1999, I had plenty of time on my hands. I decided to start working on my vision of a MMRPG. Dransik was born. Originally I called it Zorak Online, which was the name of an Ultima clone I wrote when I was a teenager. Dransik is the name of the world which my game was to take place and I felt that made for a more interesting name of the project.
As for the basics behind the project, I had my original vision, which included large guild warfare, town/castle/dungeon construction and a living breathing world where you can interact with anything you see. I also had the basic history and scenario for the world which the players live in. Since then the rest of the team has contributed many creative ideas to help mold the history and setting of the world to what it is today.

The Dransik team includes a number of other Origin alumni.
